Vietnam and Malaysia are enhancing their defense collaboration as both nations aim to fortify their bilateral relationship and contribute to stability in the region. In a recent meeting in Hanoi, Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister, General Phan Văn Giang, engaged in discussions with Malaysia’s departing Ambassador, Dato’ Tan Yang Thai. During the talks, Giang commended the ambassador for his efforts in bolstering the cooperation between the two countries.
Throughout their conversation, Giang emphasized the advancements made in defense relations, which include regular exchanges between military personnel, policy dialogues, collaborative training efforts, and joint participation in international and multilateral events. These initiatives reflect the growing partnership in defense matters between Vietnam and Malaysia.
The Vietnamese defense minister advocated for the ongoing execution of existing agreements and urged for more robust interaction through high-level meetings and established defense cooperation frameworks. Such engagements are seen as crucial for cementing the ties and ensuring both countries can effectively address mutual security challenges.
Additionally, Giang extended an invitation to Malaysia’s defense leaders and companies to take part in the Vietnam International Defence Expo 2026, set to take place in Hanoi. This event is anticipated to further deepen the defense industry links between the two nations.
Reflecting on his tenure, the Malaysian ambassador expressed gratitude towards Vietnam’s defense ministry and military for their support. He voiced optimism that the defense partnership between Malaysia and Vietnam will continue to grow, contributing positively to the peace and prosperity of the region.
