In a firm stance against terrorism, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi have called for concerted international efforts to address threats posed by militant groups based in Pakistan, specifically targeting Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM). The leaders made this call during the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit held in New Delhi, where they underscored their dedication to eradicating terrorism in all its manifestations and stressed the necessity of holding perpetrators accountable for their actions.
In their joint declaration, Modi and Takaichi condemned the terrorist attack that took place in Pahalgam the previous year. They also took note of the United Nations Security Council Monitoring Team Report, released on July 29, 2025, which highlighted the activities of The Resistance Front (TRF). The prime ministers criticized cross-border terrorism originating from Pakistan and urged for a coordinated global response against all terrorist organizations listed by the United Nations, including Al Qaeda, ISIS/Daesh, Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammad, and their affiliated groups.
The summit’s discussions went beyond security concerns, as the two leaders emphasized expanding the strategic and economic partnership between their nations. Modi expressed his admiration for Takaichi, commending her as a visionary leader and affectionately calling her his “younger sister.” He also highlighted the deep historical and cultural connections between India and Japan, referencing Takaichi’s roots in Nara Prefecture, a region with significant ties to the shared Buddhist heritage of the two countries.
Prime Minister Takaichi reciprocated Modi’s sentiments, noting their discussions mirrored a mutual commitment to strengthening bilateral relations “as brother and sister.” During her official visit to India from July 1 to 3, which was at Modi’s invitation, she engaged in talks that led to several new initiatives to bolster cooperation across strategic, economic, and cultural domains. The summit not only reinforced the enduring partnership between India and Japan but also highlighted their joint focus on promoting regional stability, security, and sustainable development.
Additionally, the leaders condemned the Red Fort blast that occurred in New Delhi in November 2025, voicing a strong demand for those responsible for orchestrating, funding, and executing the attack to be swiftly brought to justice. They emphasized the critical need for sustained international collaboration to combat violent extremism and enhance global security measures against terrorist networks.
