In a significant move to bolster bilateral relations, Indonesia and China have inked three investment agreements collectively valued at about $2 billion, or Rp36 trillion, during the Indonesia-China Partnership Forum held in Jakarta. These agreements are set to enhance collaboration between the two nations in the sectors of renewable energy, manufacturing, and infrastructure. The most substantial of these deals is the establishment of a 300-megawatt agrivoltaic solar power plant in North Sumatra, an initiative valued at approximately $1.35 billion. This project is notable for its innovative integration of solar power generation with agricultural activities, poised to become one of the largest renewable energy projects in the region.
The partnership forum also witnessed the signing of agreements between Indonesian food and beverage firm Jobubu Jarum Minahasa and China’s Guangxi G. Taste Food Co., Ltd., as well as between Telkom Properti Indonesia and CNEC Engineering Indonesia. These collaborations underscore a shared commitment to fostering economic ties and propelling growth in various industrial sectors.
Djauhari Oratmangun, Indonesia’s Ambassador to China, emphasized the government’s strategic focus on attracting high-quality investments. He outlined that such investments are crucial for job creation, technology transfer, strengthening domestic industries, and supporting sustainable economic growth. Ambassador Oratmangun identified key areas for future collaboration, including renewable energy, electric vehicles, artificial intelligence, smart manufacturing, and green technology.
Data from Indonesia’s Ministry of Investment highlights the substantial economic impact of Chinese investments, which amounted to $38.34 billion from 2021 through the first half of 2026. These investments have been instrumental in generating over 500,000 jobs, illustrating the profound influence of Indonesia-China economic partnerships on the nation’s labor market and industrial landscape.
