Indonesia and Serbia have committed to enhancing their bilateral cooperation in several critical sectors, including trade, industrial development, and food and energy security. This decision came about during the fifth Bilateral Consultation Forum in Jakarta, where both nations also expressed interest in partnering on emerging technologies.

Among the key areas of focus, Indonesia extended an invitation to Serbia to collaborate on mineral exploration, nickel processing, and electric vehicle supply chains. Additionally, both countries explored opportunities in the realms of artificial intelligence, data centers, semiconductors, and digital transformation. These discussions signal a mutual interest in leveraging technological advancements to boost economic ties.

Bilateral trade between the two nations has shown promising growth, with an average annual increase of 20.62% from 2021 to 2025, reaching a value of $53.6 million in 2025. To further capitalize on this momentum, Indonesia and Serbia agreed to explore the possibility of a free trade agreement and the creation of a joint economic commission. This initiative aims to expand trade and enhance access to Central and Eastern European markets.

The discussions also addressed investment opportunities, industrial production, and employment cooperation. Notably, both governments agreed to investigate government-to-government arrangements that would strengthen the legal protection of Indonesian migrant workers in Serbia, reflecting a commitment to safeguarding citizens abroad.

In addition to economic and technological collaborations, the two countries reaffirmed their commitment to upholding sovereignty and territorial integrity. Looking ahead, they plan to convene the sixth Bilateral Consultation Forum in Serbia, with the exact date yet to be announced, marking a continued dedication to fostering strong bilateral relations.
